About the position

The Accounting Payroll Specialist role is focused on ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for all employees. This position requires a keen attention to detail and involves managing payroll-related queries while maintaining compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The specialist will collaborate with the Accounting Department to ensure proper financial reporting and reconciliation of payroll data.

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Handle payroll discrepancies and resolve any issues that arise.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and ensure proper GL (General Ledger) entries are made.
  • Prepare and review payroll journal entries to ensure payroll transactions are accurately recorded in the financial system.
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws.
  • Collaborate with the accounting team to reconcile payroll-related transactions with financial statements and assist in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes.
  • Assist in managing tax-related functions, including withholding tax, social security, and other payroll-related taxes, ensuring timely remittance and accurate reporting.
  • Support year-end reporting processes, including tax filing, W-2 distribution, and audits.
  • Prepare payroll accruals and analyze variances in payroll expenses.
  • Manage employee inquiries related to payroll, taxes, and deductions.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience in payroll processing is required.
  • Proficiency in Excel (2 years of experience is required).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with W-2 End of Year processing.
  • Knowledge of withholding taxes.
  • Experience with payroll accounting and benefits.
  • Familiarity with 1099s.
