About the position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Payroll Specialist to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing payroll processes, ensuring accurate and timely compensation for employees, and maintaining compliance with applicable regulations. This role requires a strong understanding of financial concepts and experience with payroll systems to support our organization's operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll for all employees accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Manage accounts payable functions related to payroll, including deductions for benefits administration.
  • Perform account reconciliation to ensure accuracy in payroll transactions and resolve discrepancies as needed.
  • Utilize PeopleSoft or similar payroll software to maintain employee records and process payroll transactions efficiently.
  • Conduct regular audits of payroll data and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal policies.
  • Assist in the administration of employee benefits related to payroll deductions.
  • Maintain knowledge of governmental accounting practices as they relate to payroll processing.
  • Provide support in technical accounting matters as they pertain to payroll functions.
  • Utilize 10 key typing skills for efficient data entry and processing of payroll information.
  • Collaborate with HR and finance teams to address any payroll-related inquiries or issues.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years solid AP experience
  • Proven experience as a Payroll Specialist or similar role in a finance department.
  • Strong knowledge of financial concepts, including debits and credits, and their application in payroll processing.
  • Familiarity with Paychex or other payroll software is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in accounts payable, benefits administration, technical accounting, or governmental accounting is a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify discrepancies and resolve issues effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data analysis and reporting purposes.
