About the position

The Accounting Payroll Specialist at Johnson North America plays a crucial role in administering the payroll function for the company. This position is part of a Shared Services team that supports various business units, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while adhering to state and federal guidelines. The specialist will handle payroll inquiries, maintain confidentiality, and contribute to a team-oriented work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Processes employee payroll information, ensuring accurate and timely payment for each payroll period.
  • Ensures accuracy of status changes and audits of time records, addressing discrepancies as needed.
  • Files required documents and reports according to company and payroll guidelines, including W-2s and garnishments.
  • Analyzes and responds to employee inquiries regarding paycheck questions, involving other resources as necessary.
  • Processes garnishments and communicates relevant information to all parties involved.
  • Stays current with HR payroll policies and public policy changes affecting payroll rules and guidelines.
  • Builds professional Excel reports from payroll reporting software.
  • Answers employee questions in a timely manner.
  • Ensures compliance with confidentiality, privacy, and retention rules.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience processing payroll for a multi-state employer.
  • Experience with computerized payroll systems and HRIS systems; Paylocity experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal pay and taxation regulations is required.
  • Knowledge of standard payroll concepts, practices, and procedures is required.
  • Prior general accounting experience is a plus.
  • Intermediate Excel skills, including work with pivot tables and v-lookups, are required.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines while providing high-level customer service.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Payroll Professional certification (CPP) is preferred.
