About the position

Old National Bank is seeking a Manager of Accounting Policy and Projects to join our team. This position is integral to the Accounting Policy team, which operates under the Corporate Controller organization and reports to the Chief Accounting Officer. The Accounting Policy team is responsible for ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls, as well as providing accurate financial statement reporting. The selected candidate will act as a business partner, offering timely and precise financial consultation on both emerging and complex accounting issues. This role involves collaboration with various departments, including Corporate Accounting, Tax, Legal, Operations, Finance, Treasury, and external auditors, to implement new accounting standards and ensure adherence to existing ones. The position also provides opportunities to engage with executive management, making it a pivotal role within the organization. In addition to providing technical accounting research and consultation, the Manager will draft technical accounting memos, maintain and update accounting policies, and monitor standard-setting activities from the FASB and SEC. The role requires the ability to manage through ambiguity and drive solutions across stakeholders while assisting with operational and automation projects as directed by the Corporate Controller. The Manager will oversee the day-to-day activities of the Accounting Policy team, develop succession plans, and ensure that internal accounting controls are maintained. This position also involves preparing and reviewing internal and external financial reports, coordinating with other departments for continuous improvement, and assisting with budget and forecasting activities. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of US GAAP. They will be responsible for motivating and training staff, maintaining accounting system policies, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This role is essential for maintaining the integrity of financial reporting and supporting the overall goals of Old National Bank.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Controllership in setting and ensuring compliance with internal accounting policies and GAAP regulations.
  • Provide US GAAP technical accounting research, interpretation, and consultation on complex transactions.
  • Draft technical accounting memos on a recurring and ad-hoc basis.
  • Maintain, review, monitor, and update ONB's accounting policies continuously.
  • Monitor standard setting activities from the FASB and SEC and assist in comment letter activities.
  • Coordinate significant and unusual transactions and develop a quarterly internal reporting dashboard.
  • Provide annual and ad hoc technical accounting training to internal groups.
  • Oversee day-to-day activities of the Accounting Policy team.
  • Develop succession and development plans within the team.
  • Monitor and review performance with respect to expectations and current conditions.
  • Ensure internal accounting controls are maintained and actions align with regulations and policies.
  • Motivate, supervise, train, and evaluate staff members.
  • Maintain accounting system policies and procedures and revise as needed.
  • Ensure timely and accurate internal and external financial reporting in compliance with applicable laws and GAAP.
  • Review and prepare key areas of ONB's 10Q or 10K reports.
  • Work with cross-functional department managers on continuous improvement of reporting and accountability.
  • Assist with budget and re-forecasts during the year.
  • Provide supporting work papers for internal and external audits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • CPA certification required.
  • 4-10 years of progressive experience in Public Accounting or Banking as a financial or accounting analyst.
  • Strong technical accounting writing skills.
  • Experience in analytical, research, project, and stakeholder management.
  • Understanding of accounting systems (e.g., Fiserv, Wdesk, Longview, ERP systems).
  • Strong PC skills with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with cross-functional leaders and executives.

  • MBA in Finance a plus.
  • Information systems skills with a mainframe a plus.
