About the position

Blue Cypress Consulting is seeking a responsible and self-motivated individual for a full-time accounting position for a community planning and engineering small business in Decatur. This position will be responsible for providing financial management support for the firm's projects and contracts including invoicing, reporting, and assisting with accounts receivable. The successful candidate will assist with the review and processing of related project expenses, accounts payable, and activities to support calculations of overhead rates. We are looking for someone with outstanding verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Must be detail-oriented and able to prioritize, multitask, and organize complex projects. A candidate with enthusiasm, professionalism, and critical thinking skills will be a good fit for our team. The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience with Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel. Additional software experience with Unanet or other accounting software is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Project Managers to create and send accurate client invoices that comply with contract terms and accounting schedule
  • Set up project budget in the ERP system based on information from project setup forms and contract documents
  • Verify contract and amendment terms with the Project Manager
  • Review and upload subcontractor invoices
  • Monitor work in progress
  • Work closely with Project Managers on communication with clients on invoices and past-due payments
  • Create P&L and GL budget reports for Owner
  • Monitor timesheet labor adjustments & submit expense reports for team
  • Support and work closely with external accounting team members
  • Maintain integrity and confidentiality in financial reporting and comply with national and local financial requirements

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Understanding of basic principles of finance, accounting, and bookkeeping
  • 1-2 years of related professional accounting or finance experience
  • Experience invoicing HNTE and Fixed Fee contracts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Mastery of Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Effective and personable verbal and written communication abilities with strong follow-up skills
  • Time management skills with the flexibility and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and collaborate with various managers in a fast-paced environment
  • Must maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • A strong work ethic and positive commitment to being an active participant in our small business culture is a must
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Nice-to-haves
