About the position

The position is responsible for establishing and maintaining the Bancorp's accounting policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role involves monitoring emerging accounting issues and standards, interpreting newly issued accounting standards, and overseeing their implementation across the organization. The individual will formally communicate significant policy or procedural changes to relevant areas within the Bancorp and consult with various finance teams on technical accounting topics. Additionally, the position requires representation of Accounting Risk/External Reporting on various Bancorp accounting and finance initiatives, as well as involvement in special projects. Key responsibilities include the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures, ensuring they are documented clearly and updated in accordance with GAAP. The individual will proactively monitor emerging accounting issues, assess their implications for the Bancorp, and discuss these with senior accounting leadership and external auditors as necessary. The role also involves coordinating implementation teams for newly issued standards, developing adoption strategies, and quantifying financial statement impacts for communication to the finance organization and the Audit Committee. The position requires proactive engagement with finance teams to understand new and emerging business transactions, developing technical accounting requirements, and assisting with transaction structures to maximize favorable economic impacts while ensuring compliance with GAAP. The individual will serve as the technical accounting subject-matter expert on various finance and accounting initiatives, including process improvements and merger and acquisition activities, and will participate in Bancorp committees. Supervisory responsibilities include providing timely and constructive performance feedback to employees, developing their potential, and ensuring adequate succession planning within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain Bancorp accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure proper documentation and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Communicate policy and procedural changes proactively and timely to appropriate areas of the Bancorp.
  • Monitor emerging accounting issues and assess their implications for the Bancorp.
  • Discuss implications of emerging issues with the Director of Accounting Risk and Policy, Assistant Controller, and Controller.
  • Develop comment letters as appropriate for emerging accounting issues.
  • Interpret newly issued accounting standards and assess their impact on the Bancorp.
  • Coordinate implementation teams to ensure representation from all relevant Bancorp departments.
  • Develop adoption implementation strategies and oversee their execution.
  • Quantify current and expected financial statement impacts for communication to the finance organization and Audit Committee.
  • Consult with Affiliate, centralized, and LOB finance teams on technical accounting topics.
  • Engage finance teams to understand new and emerging business transactions.
  • Develop and communicate technical accounting requirements and related financial statement impacts.
  • Assist with transaction structures and drafting of contractual agreements to maximize economic impact and ensure GAAP alignment.
  • Serve as the technical accounting subject-matter expert on finance/accounting initiatives and special projects.
  • Provide timely, candid, and constructive performance feedback to employees.

Requirements
