About the position

Waltonen Engineering is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join their team as an Accounting Specialist focused on General Ledger tasks. This hybrid position requires commuting to the Warren, MI location and involves a variety of financial responsibilities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and be capable of handling financial tasks efficiently. The planned start date for this position is January 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the VP of Finance and Administration.
  • Compile and analyze financial information for account entries and document transactions.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Develop account schedules and supporting documentation for external audits.
  • Collaborate with auditors and address their queries.
  • Track and manage fixed assets, including acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation.
  • Address inquiries and correspondence from tax authorities.
  • Prepare and submit documentation to resolve tax issues and ensure compliance.
  • Gather and analyze data for personal property tax returns and ensure timely submission.
  • Support insurance policy administration, including renewals and claims, and assist with policy audits.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or higher in Accounting is highly preferred, but degrees in related fields or equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Experience in preparing complete financial statements.
  • Proficiency in reconciling general ledger accounts.
  • Understanding of the accounting cycle and its application.
  • Experience in maintaining fixed asset accounts and insurance administration.
  • Basic understanding of corporate tax and personal property tax returns.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite - Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrates meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in all tasks.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Efficient task prioritization with the ability to adhere to schedules.
  • Ability to obtain a Security Clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with the administration of 401K plans (helpful but not critical; training available).
  • Previous work experience in sectors such as engineering, automotive, or defense.
  • CPA certification or equivalent experience is a plus.
