About the position

The Accounting Specialist - Payroll will assist the Accounting Manager in various accounting functions, focusing on payroll processing and financial reporting. This role is essential for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the financial operations of a nonprofit organization that serves Russian and Asian-language speaking populations.

Responsibilities

  • Handles semi-monthly and on-demand payroll processing including data collections, system maintenance, data entry, paycheck distribution, and filing.
  • Assists in month-end and year-end financial closing processes: journal entries, reconciliation, supporting schedules, data entry, and filing.
  • Maintains Paid Time Off (PTO) information and other management reports.
  • Provides support services to employees and supervisors.
  • Researches budget variance issues on personnel costs.
  • Serves as a backup person for other accounting staff, as needed.

Requirements

  • At least a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance
  • Two to four years of accounting experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with computerized accounting applications such as MIP and ADP Workforce Now
  • Willingness to learn
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with a high level of accuracy and flexibility.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
