The Accounting Technician (General Ledger) position at the Department of the Air Force involves performing a full range of accounting duties using double-entry accrual accounting methods. The role is part-time, guaranteeing 20-34 hours per week, and is based at Fairchild AFB, WA. The technician will maintain journals and ledgers, classify and verify accounting documents, and provide guidance to activity personnel.

Responsibilities

• Perform a full range of duties using double-entry accrual accounting methods.
• Classify, verify, and analyze a variety of accounting documents for correctness and accuracy.
• Maintain double-entry bookkeeping journals and subsidiary ledgers, posting entries to establish accounts.
• Prepare monthly balances, reconcile accounts, and transcribe to the general ledger for account closeout.
• Trace discrepancies to posting documents and compute operational expenses for accounting services provided.
• Prepare reports including profit and loss statements and miscellaneous financial reporting data.
• Provide accounting guidance and procedures to activity personnel and other accounting technicians.
• Perform receiving and disbursing cashier duties, processing deposits from all activities.

Requirements

• Experience in double-entry accounting procedures and techniques.
• Knowledge of automated general ledger systems and ability to analyze interrelationships of accounts.
• Progressively responsible general clerical experience demonstrating arithmetic aptitude and attention to detail.
• Experience in handling cash items and using cash accountability control methods.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Skill in dealing with the public.
