About the position

The Accounting Technician position at the Department of the Air Force involves performing senior-level accounting duties, resolving complex problems, and developing accounting procedures. The role serves as a liaison between base organizations and the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), while also handling the examination, verification, and maintenance of accounts within an accounting system.

Responsibilities

• Receive, review, and classify complex transactions where guidelines lack specificity.
• Maintain, reconcile, and close accounts involving a variety of transactions.
• Analyze and examine accounting data and accounts to resolve complex, nonstandard transactions, complaints, or discrepancies.
• Prepare reports and perform or oversee miscellaneous technical tasks in support of the accounting function.

Requirements

• At least one year of specialized experience at the GS-06 level or equivalent.
• In-depth knowledge of accounting procedures and techniques.
• Knowledge of extensive and diverse accounting regulations, operations, and procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of the Prompt Payment Act as it affects accounts.
• Skill in operating a calculator and utilizing a keyboard to access information.
