About the position

In the Department of Mathematics at NC State University, a long tradition of excellent teaching and a supportive environment for students are paired with cutting-edge research across a broad spectrum of mathematics and its applications. Responsibilities

  • Initiate and process financial transactions in PeopleSoft, including vouchers, purchase requisitions, Marketplace orders, and travel reimbursements.
  • Reconcile department purchasing card transactions and ensure compliance with budget authority guidelines.
  • Facilitate new vendor setup in PaymentWorks and support departmental purchases as needed.
  • Assist with project reconciliation and budget tracking using tools like OMAR or other departmental solutions.
  • Support financial transactions for events such as conferences and workshops, as directed by the Business Officer.
  • Maintain accurate and timely updates to CAMS inventory records ensuring expedient processing during annual inventory certification.
  • Provide clear guidance on financial processes, such as travel authorizations and reimbursements, using standardized templates and tools.
  • Engage in cross-training with other business office areas to build skills and enhance departmental finance team operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and/or Google Sheets. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Apps or similar products.
  • Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
  • Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated and have the ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize work.
  • Must comply with federal, state, university, college and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prefer candidates with NC State experience in accounting/Peoplesoft Financials.
  • Familiarity with NC State Contracts and Grants/Sponsored Projects would be a plus, but is not required.
