About the position

The Accounts Maintenance Specialist is responsible for interpreting financial data, ensuring proper posting of business unit transactions, and providing reports. This role involves performing accounting functions, advising on policy for expenditure control, and monitoring compliance with GAAP. The specialist will also provide customer service to Navajo Nation programs and internal management.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets data from financial records for proper posting of Business Units and amounts.
  • Prepares and provides reports.
  • Performs accounting functions and provides advice on policy to ensure expenditure control.
  • Monitors compliance with GAAP and conducts research to ensure accounting transactions are recorded correctly.
  • Provides customer services to Navajo Nation programs and internal management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED supplemented by college-level courses in bookkeeping and/or accounting.
  • Two years of increasingly responsible bookkeeping or clerical accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of Fixed Asset accounting and financial processes.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient with basic computer software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with Navajo Nation Government.
