About the position

The Accounts Payable Accountant at North Hennepin Community College is responsible for managing all accounts payable functions, ensuring timely and accurate handling of vendor invoices in compliance with relevant policies. The role also involves oversight of purchasing card activities, processing student payroll, and maintaining financial records for various programs and grants. Additionally, the accountant will compile and reconcile monthly control documentation, contributing to the financial integrity of the college.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all accounts payable functions for the college.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices according to policies.
  • Oversee and administer purchasing card activities and reporting.
  • Process student payroll accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Post receipts to appropriate programs, projects, and grants in the financial system.
  • Compile and reconcile monthly mitigating control documentation.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Understanding of acceptable accounts payable business practices.
  • Proficient in English for effective communication and instruction following.
  • Strong math skills for data reconciliation and account balancing.
  • Computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel and database management, to manage accounts payable tasks.
  • Ability to design and explain work procedures and fiscal policies.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects accurately.
  • Good human relation skills for effective communication with students, employees, and vendors.
  • Customer service skills to convey complex information clearly.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Minnesota State College policies and procedures.
  • Experience with Workday and Minn State's ISRS system.
  • Two or more years of direct accounts payable experience.
  • Two or more years in a customer service environment.
  • Experience in maintaining a diverse and respectful work environment.
  • Knowledge of laws and policies regarding state funds handling.
