About the position

The Accounts Payable/Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing the full cycle accounts payable and weekly payroll processes within the accounting department. This role is crucial for ensuring accurate and timely financial transactions for employees, vendors, and management.

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly payroll on a weekly basis
  • Ensure that pay rates, deductions, and benefit records are accurately processed and posted to the general ledger
  • Maintain working knowledge of active projects and communicate with operations to ensure accurate posting of expenses across projects and departments
  • Confirm that disbursements of company funds are for valid services performed
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment of vendor invoices
  • Monitor vendor statements to ensure payments are up-to-date
  • Reconcile open invoice reports to GL balance
  • Monitor checks to be voided or stopped
  • Assist in developing accruals for financial statement close
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports as requested
  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years' experience in payroll or accounts payable role
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with 3rd party payroll service (e.g., Dominion Payroll)
  • Experience with Foundation Software or other construction-based accounting software
