The Accounts Receivable Clerk is a vital role within the Billing Department, responsible for managing cash posting functions and providing essential clerical support. This position requires a strong understanding of third-party reimbursement issues, which are critical for ensuring accurate billing and payment processing. The Accounts Receivable Clerk will report directly to the Billing Department Manager and will be expected to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in all tasks performed. In this role, the clerk will utilize various computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, to perform daily tasks efficiently. A significant part of the job involves applying payments to individual accounts receivable claims from various payor sources, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurances. The clerk will also be responsible for processing payment determinations for denied claims, deductibles, and co-pays, ensuring that all claims are managed effectively. The Accounts Receivable Clerk will update status codes for claims, document claims management notes, and bill any residual amounts to the appropriate payor source. Additionally, the clerk will notify billing staff of any contractual adjustments that fall outside established limits and guidelines. Managing unapplied payments and researching overpayments to determine the appropriate course of action, whether it be a refund or another solution, is also a key responsibility. At the end of each day, the clerk will perform cash posting functions and assist billing staff in addressing accounts receivable aging, which includes making in-house collection calls and handling inbound customer inquiries. The role also involves assisting with clerical functions related to claims submission and tracking productivity measures as directed by the billing department supervisor. Attendance at in-store meetings and workshops is required to stay current with job responsibilities, and the clerk may be assigned additional duties as deemed appropriate by management.
