About the position

J. Banks Design Group is seeking a high-energy, self-motivated Accounts Receivable / Project Accounting specialist to join our team. As an award-winning design firm with over 65 associates, we are committed to excellence in interior design and aim to exceed client expectations while providing top-quality products and services. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast-growing company that is currently implementing a major software upgrade. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and will be adept at managing multiple initiatives while being open to providing and receiving feedback from the team. In this full-time role, located on Hilton Head Island, SC, the Accounts Receivable / Project Accounting specialist will be responsible for applying routine principles of bookkeeping to complete assigned duties related to accounts receivable processing. The position requires a proactive approach to assist designers and assistants with studio and accounting questions, create residential client contracts as requested, verify receipt of signed contracts and client deposits, and process client invoicing. Additionally, the specialist will adjust time billing for design assistants, manage the accounts receivable aging and collection process, process credit card and check payments, perform bank drops, and maintain an updated accounts receivable spreadsheet daily. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of our accounting processes and supporting our design teams effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assist designers and assistants with studio and accounting questions.
  • Create residential client contracts as requested by designers.
  • Verify receipt and notify designers of signed contracts, signed proposals, and client deposits.
  • Process client invoicing.
  • Adjust time billing for design assistants as requested by designers.
  • Manage accounts receivable aging and collection process.
  • Process credit card and check payments from clients and send receipts.
  • Perform bank drops.
  • Record and update accounts receivable spreadsheet daily.
  • Complete additional duties as requested.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ years basic knowledge of accounting/bookkeeping.
  • 3+ years of extensive knowledge/experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to effectively present information to others.
  • Ability to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions for routine transactions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in accounting (1 year preferred).
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel (1 year preferred).
  • Ability to commute to Hilton Head Island, SC (preferred).
