About the position

The Accounts Receivable Representative at Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital - St. Louis plays a crucial role in managing the financial aspects of patient care. This position is responsible for preparing and transmitting claim forms and patient invoices, ensuring accurate billing and follow-up on accounts receivable. The representative will collaborate with various teams to maintain efficient operations and support the hospital's mission of providing exceptional care to the community.

Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts receivable for insurance plans and reconcile past due accounts.
  • Field inquiries from external and internal clients regarding billing.
  • Update insurance and demographic information for accurate claim submissions.
  • Interpret insurance and Medicare explanations of benefits and resubmit claims as necessary.
  • Follow up on claims billed to insurance that have not yet been paid.
  • Initiate requests for refunds to patients, employers, or insurance companies as needed.
  • Conduct collection follow-ups with appropriate payers via internet or telephone.
  • Assist coworkers and hospital staff with requests in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with managers and hospital contacts.
  • Document all actions taken regarding customer accounts according to office policy.
  • Ensure accuracy of insurance information and stay updated on new regulations.
  • Solve problems and exchange ideas effectively in a team environment.
  • Accept additional duties as assigned and meet deadlines negotiated with supervisor.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of MS Office required; intermediate Excel skills preferred.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication and email management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively, think critically, and take initiative.
  • High School diploma required; some college preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a medical billing capacity.
  • Experience in third-party and Medicare billing and collections.
