About the position

The Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for performing diverse billing, collections, accounting, and administrative duties to maintain, bill, and collect patients' and residents' accounts and receivables in a homecare and hospice setting. This role involves managing claims for various insurances, including Medicare and Medicaid, and ensuring compliance with industry standards while utilizing the Meditech hospital information system.

Responsibilities

• Perform billing, collections, and administrative duties for patients' and residents' accounts.
• Manage claims preparation, submission, and collection to industry standards.
• Utilize Meditech hospital information system for claims processing.
• Monitor accounts for changes and verify Medicaid approvals.
• Prepare and process Medicare and other insurance updates for Home Health, Hospice, and Personal Assistance.
• Interact with Medicare, Medicaid, and state agencies to resolve authorization issues.
• Follow up on claims for review of suspended or denied claims, correcting and resubmitting as necessary.
• Maintain accurate notes in Meditech on follow-up activity and manage status of claims.
• Collect each claim and account to bring to zero balance and meet cash flow targets.
• Assist with the admissions process and ensure timely submission of required forms.

Requirements

• Five to ten years of related experience in billing and collections.
• Proficiency with PCs and systems, including Excel and Word.
• Basic math skills and excellent attention to detail.
• Experience with Medicaid, Medicare, and third-party billing and collections.
• Familiarity with the Meditech information system.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in outpatient or hospital billing preferred.
• Knowledge of MassHealth and insurance billing and collections preferred.
