About the position

The Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for managing billing, collections, and accounting duties related to patients' and residents' accounts in the homecare and hospice sectors. This role involves ensuring accurate billing for services provided, including Medicare and Medicaid claims, and maintaining effective communication with various stakeholders to resolve issues and streamline processes. The specialist will utilize the Meditech hospital information system to manage accounts and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the admissions process, including preparing for and processing new admissions, collecting initial payments, and addressing patient and family inquiries.
• Submit Notice of Election forms to Medicare for new hospice admissions and ensure timely submission of Notice of Admission forms for Home Health.
• Monitor accounts for changes, verify Medicaid approvals, and maintain accuracy of financial information in Meditech.
• Prepare and process quarterly credit balance reporting for Home Health and Hospice services.
• Prepare and submit monthly billing and claims to Medicare, Medicaid, Private Pay, and Commercial payors.
• Interact with Medicare, Medicaid, and state agencies to resolve authorization and coverage issues.
• Follow up on suspended or denied claims, correcting and resubmitting as necessary.
• Maintain accurate notes in Meditech regarding follow-up activities and manage the status of claims.
• Analyze and resolve unpaid or underpaid claims, determining reasons for payment issues and taking corrective action.
• Process and reconcile cash receipts, balancing to the cash journal with accounting.

Requirements

• Five years of related experience in billing and collections.
• Proficiency in PC applications, particularly Excel and Word, along with basic math skills and attention to detail.
• Experience with outpatient or hospital billing preferred, especially with Meditech systems.
• Knowledge of MassHealth, Medicare, and insurance billing and collections.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Medicaid and third-party billing and collections is preferred.
