About the position

The Accounts Receivable (AR) Specialist at Kalamazoo Anesthesiology is responsible for managing all phases of accounts receivable collection and payment posting activities. This role involves regular interaction with patients and insurance companies to ensure accurate billing and timely collections. The position offers a hybrid work environment with the opportunity for remote work after training, and it requires a strong focus on customer service and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Review Explanation of Benefits to interpret insurance payments.
  • Post patient and insurance payments and apply adjustments by recording cash, checks, and credit card transactions.
  • Determine and resolve credit balances on patient accounts.
  • Utilize collections queue and aging reports to follow up on unpaid claims.
  • Identify root causes of insurance denials and follow up with relevant parties.
  • Process medical records and requests for additional information as needed by insurance companies.
  • Process insurance appeals and rebills to payors.
  • Follow up with patients and insurance representatives regarding outstanding balances.
  • Assist patients with setting up payment plans or refer them to eligibility professionals.
  • Respond to patient questions regarding bills and take payment information.
  • Meet with Supervisor to discuss and resolve reimbursement issues or billing obstacles.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and continuing educational sessions as requested.

Requirements

  • High school diploma is required; Associates degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of accounts receivable experience is required, preferably in a medical setting.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and CPT and ICD-10 coding is preferred.
  • High level of customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and medical billing software.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet important deadlines.
  • Self-directed individual with strong attention to detail.
