About the position

The Accounts Receivable Specialist at Home Medical Products, Inc. is a part-time position based in Lafayette, LA, focused on managing patient billing and payment processes. The role requires a thorough understanding of the current patient database and billing system, ensuring accurate entry of patient and insurance payments. The specialist will be responsible for making daily deposits at the bank and must possess strong phone etiquette to represent the company professionally. This position involves reading and interpreting medical Explanation of Benefits (EOB) documents, which is crucial for effective communication with management and co-workers. The specialist will also be expected to maintain a steady level of productivity, demonstrating self-motivation and initiative in their work. Additionally, the role includes organizing and managing the activities of the Secretary, reflecting consideration for the needs of the facility and staff. The specialist will make informed decisions within their scope of practice and will be responsible for operating computer equipment safely and correctly. Other duties may be assigned as needed, and effective communication with the management team is essential for reporting any concerns or issues.

Responsibilities

  • Learns and maintains knowledge of current patient database and billing system.
  • Represents VieMed in a professional manner with proper phone etiquette.
  • Makes daily deposits at the bank.
  • Enters patient and insurance payments in the billing system.
  • Reads and understands medical EOB (Explanation of Benefits).
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to Manager and other superiors.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationships with co-workers for the patient's benefit.
  • Utilizes initiative to maintain a steady level of productivity; self-motivated.
  • Organizes and manages Secretary's activities considering the needs of the facility and staff.
  • Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of facts and good judgment within the coordinator's scope of practice.
  • Manages and operates computer equipment safely and correctly.
  • Completes other duties as assigned within the time given.
  • Reports all concerns or issues directly to Collections Manager and Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read accounting payment ledger as well as EOB (Explanation of Benefits).
  • Understanding of Insurance Medical and Payment Policies.
  • Two years minimum of medical billing experience required.
  • DME experience preferred.
  • Superior organizational skills and time management abilities.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work as part of a healthcare team.
  • Strong communication proficiency.
