About the position

The Accounts Receivable Technician position at the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Finance involves managing the accounts receivable function within the Debt Management Center (DMC). The role includes clerical support, debt analysis, correspondence with debtors, and collaboration with various federal offices. The technician will serve as the primary contact for clients regarding accounts receivable and debt collection, ensuring compliance with agency regulations and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general clerical support to the agency's accounts receivable function.
  • Review and analyze information related to the maintenance of all debts.
  • Initiate correspondence to discuss account status when inquiries are made.
  • Locate debtors when correspondence is returned undeliverable.
  • Answer inquiries regarding debts and provide audits.
  • Contact collection agencies for payoff amounts.
  • Review requests for waiver and/or compromise offers.
  • Accept or reject repayment offers based on criteria provided in agency regulations.
  • Propose alternative repayment plans when appropriate.
  • Write off debts that meet agency criteria.
  • Serve as the principal point of contact for clients regarding accounts receivable.
  • Process waiver requests for all indebtedness generated for payment programs.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for referral programs with various federal offices.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required to apply for this job.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-4 level in a related field, or four years of undergraduate education, or a combination of education and experience for GS-5 level.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-5 level for GS-6 level, including serving as a principal point of contact for clients regarding accounts receivable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in federal debt collection policies and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to analyze financial information and make sound decisions.
