About the position

The Accounts Receivable Technician position at the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Finance involves providing clerical support to the agency's fiscal functions, particularly in accounts receivable and debt collection. The role is responsible for managing the overall operation of the accounts receivable function within the Debt Management Center, including reviewing and analyzing debt information, initiating correspondence with debtors, and proposing repayment plans. The technician serves as the primary contact for clients regarding accounts receivable and processes waiver requests for indebtedness.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general clerical support to the agency's fiscal functions, particularly in accounts receivable and debt collection.
  • Manage the overall operation of the accounts receivable function in the Debt Management Center.
  • Review and analyze information related to the maintenance of all debts.
  • Initiate correspondence to discuss the status of accounts when inquiries are made.
  • Locate debtors when correspondence is returned undeliverable using various sources.
  • Answer inquiries regarding debts, provide audits, and contact collection agencies for payoff amounts.
  • Review requests for waiver and/or compromise offers and accept or reject repayment offers based on criteria.
  • Propose alternative repayment plans when appropriate.
  • Write off debts that meet agency criteria for write-off.
  • Serve as the principal point of contact for clients regarding accounts receivable and provide explanations through correspondence.
  • Process waiver requests for all indebtedness generated for payment programs.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required to apply for this job.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-4 level in Federal, state, local, private, or public service, or four years of undergraduate education from an accredited institution.
  • Specialized experience includes providing basic clerical duties and reviewing account receivable/debt collection policies.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-5 level for GS-6 applicants, including serving as the principal point of contact for clients regarding accounts receivable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in federal financial regulations and policies.
