About the position

The Cake Decorator at Albertsons Companies is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while preparing and decorating cakes and other bakery items. This role emphasizes customer engagement, product knowledge, and maintaining a clean and organized bakery environment. The Cake Decorator will also assist with inventory management and ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast and friendly Customer Service.
  • Assists customers by making product suggestions, filling special orders, and providing food preparation suggestions.
  • Answers and responds to incoming calls appropriately.
  • Receives and resolves customer complaints and reports to Store Director as needed.
  • Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone and in-store interactions.
  • Helps customers with special orders for cakes and other bakery items, including personalization.
  • Decorates cakes following decorating instructions for special orders.
  • Trims, cuts, and shapes cakes to required sizes.
  • Ices cakes, forms designs, and writes messages on cakes with icing.
  • Forms decorations on 'flower nail' and transfers decorations to cake.
  • Neatly stores finished and unfinished cakes to maintain quality.
  • May slice bread and prepare all bakery items, including proofing, baking, packaging, and icing products.
  • Implements proper and efficient product demonstrations, preparation, and packaging techniques.
  • Maintains Bakery case cleanliness, visual appeal, and inventory levels.
  • Ensures cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance of bakery area and equipment.
  • Ensures safe work environment and maintains proper temperatures during preparation, display, and storage.
  • Assists with physical inventory taken every 4 weeks and controls inventory levels according to division directives.
  • Stocks and rotates products, maintains and organizes cooler, and understands opening and closing department procedures.
  • Builds displays, rotates, and discards outdated or spoiled products.
  • Processes administrative paperwork and maintains accurate department records.
  • Maintains all varieties of back-up cake in the freezer using production sheets.
  • Completes and monitors daily log sheets, Production Chart, Sales and Labor, and other required paperwork.
  • Controls shrink and cost, ensuring proper temperature levels for products are maintained.
  • Complies with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, and company policies.
  • Implements emergency procedures in the event of equipment and software malfunctions.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor with customers and co-workers.
  • Good understanding of overall company practices and Bakery Department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver objects up to approximately 60 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and reach frequently.
  • Ability to push and pull fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks.
  • Ability to perform repetitious arm movements for product preparation and display.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures.
  • Knowledge of product variety, standards, perishability, product handling, sanitation, and labeling.
