As an Acquisitions Editor within our growing Medicine book publishing team, you will take responsibility for ensuring effective and financially successful title acquisition in emerging and established areas within clinical medicine. This includes practical skills-based titles, clinical manuals, educational resources, and reference content aimed at improving health outcomes, educating the next generation of health care professionals, and upskilling the existing practitioner community. You will build relationships with authors from all over the world and across academic communities, developing and applying your market knowledge, subject expertise, and strong networking skills. Your role will be pivotal in acquiring content and products in line with our strategic goals for growth, profitability, and product enhancement, by capitalizing on market trends and interdisciplinary opportunities. In this position, you will identify and develop global publishing opportunities across a competitive landscape, within traditional book publishing markets and beyond, including digital publishing. You will acquire individual titles aimed at target markets, meeting revenue and profit goals, building financial models, and managing the review process. Your responsibilities will also include negotiating and reaching agreements with authors over content, schedules, and contractual arrangements, as well as building and maintaining relationships with authors, book editors, and contributors. You will manage the program of authors and titles published and in the pipeline, including editorial, content, cost issues, market research, monitoring sales results, and analyzing sales channels. You will champion projects through the publishing process, proposing and implementing solutions for keeping titles on track, handling author queries, and troubleshooting. Collaboration is key, and you will work effectively with colleagues in editorial and allied functions such as content, technology, marketing, and sales. This role requires a broad subject knowledge in relevant fields, new product and business acquisition experience, and the ability to identify promising projects and analyze them for the market. Excellent written and oral communication skills, project management skills, and the ability to build and manage strong relationships with authors and team members are essential for success in this role.
