About the position
The role of the instructional aide (SEL) is unique and multi-faceted. The primary goal of the position is to support all students being successful in the classroom. This position is available from September 2024 through no later than January 31, 2025, at Graham & Parks School.
Responsibilities
- Support students with academic tasks in class.
- Guide students in social conferences/mediation with peers.
- De-escalate situations when students are in need of support.
- Help to create a positive and supportive environment throughout the school supporting student behavior plans.
- Support a positive and productive recess and lunch climate and environment collaborating with families as needed.
- Collaborate with general education, special education, and related services staff.
- Support the office staff on an as-needed basis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Toileting of students is a duty that an individual may be expected and required to perform as a paraprofessional employed by the Cambridge Public Schools.
Requirements
- At least 2 years experience working with children
- Experience talking with families about their children's growth at school
- Strong communication skills-with both families and children
- Ability to maintain calm in the face of challenging behaviors and situations
- Ability to de-escalate situations with adults and children
- Computer literacy including-email, Google Docs, etc.
- Associates degree or 48 college credits
Nice-to-haves
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training preferred
