About the position

The Acting Instructional Aide is a paraprofessional role within the Office of Student Services at Tobin Montessori School, part of the Cambridge Public Schools. This position involves assisting in the implementation of Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities, providing support during instructional and non-instructional activities, and collaborating with various educational staff to ensure equitable access and success for all students. The role requires a commitment to fostering a culturally responsive learning environment and addressing the diverse needs of students.

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance with instruction for students with disabilities
• Supervise students with disabilities during non-instructional activities
• Supervise students during transitions
• Collaborate with general education, special education, and related services staff
• Accommodate and modify for student learning and support the general education teacher with the implementation of appropriate accommodations in the general education setting
• Perform related duties as may be designated by the special educator or supervisor
• Toileting of students as required

• Experience working with students in urban environments
• Energetic, enthusiastic, patient, and flexible
• Ability to address the physical, educational, and social-emotional needs of students
• Willingness to be trained in de-escalation and safe physical restraint techniques
• Physical ability to work on the floor and move around the room to support students and teachers
• Associates degree, or 48 college credits from an accredited college or university
