About the position

The Active Living and Parks Project/Event Manager is responsible for coordinating various departmental functions related to grants and funding sources, developing projects and events, and managing sub-contracts with third-party vendors. This role involves overseeing major events and projects for senior center and parks programs, ensuring compliance with grant administration, and providing technical expertise to support staff. The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under the supervision of the Assistant Active Living & Parks Director.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning, managing, and coordination of major events and projects for senior center and parks programs.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of grants.
  • Plan, implement, and manage joint services, grants, and funding sources.
  • Serve as department contact on public relations and marketing issues.
  • Perform grant administration and fiscal maintenance for the department.
  • Provide guidance and subject matter expertise regarding mandated program administration.
  • Coordinate major events such as Senior Games, Wellness Expo, and Holly Day Follies.
  • Compile information for the department's annual report.
  • Update fees and charges policy annually.
  • Process applications and maintain documentation records associated with various funding sources.
  • Assist with compiling the monthly department newsletter.
  • Secure funds used in transactions and collections for event fees.
  • Maintain clean and safe work locations.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in human services, sociology, gerontology, parks and recreation, or a related field.
  • Considerable experience in a related human service or parks and recreation field including grant writing, implementation, and reporting.
  • Extensive event/project planning experience required.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
  • Possession of CPR and first aid certification.

  • Knowledge of grant application and review processes.
  • Knowledge of effective supervisory practices.
  • Some knowledge of first aid methods and necessary safety precautions.
