About the position
BAE Systems is seeking a Communications Subject Matter Expert (SME) to serve as a product architect and individual contributor in Free Space Optical and Laser Communication Techniques. This role involves technical leadership and contribution within the Space Systems and Adaptive Communications and Sensing groups, focusing on the design, development, integration, implementation, testing, and validation of optical and laser communication products. The position emphasizes collaboration, knowledge sharing, and support for diversity, equity, and inclusion within the engineering organization.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical contributor and leader in Free Space Optical and Laser Communication Techniques.
- Align staffing and technical resources for program execution across multiple business areas.
- Support the design, development, integration, implementation, testing, and validation of optical and laser products.
- Collaborate with engineering staff and team leaders to capture knowledge through engineering changes and lessons learned.
- Act as a technical senior advisor to senior leadership and customers for technology trade-off decisions.
- Build and lead high-performance teams for technology development.
Requirements
- US Citizen with active Secret clearance and eligible for Top Secret/SCI/SAP/SAR clearance.
- In-depth working knowledge of optical communication systems and related digital signal analysis and processing.
- Hands-on experience with optical communication receivers and coherent I-Q demodulation.
- Ability to perform modeling of optical communications components and systems.
- Knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms for optical waveforms.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Top Secret SCI/SAP/SAR Cleared
- Experience with modeling and simulation relevant to EO/IR laser sensors and weapon systems.
- Working knowledge of active laser sensing theory and techniques across the electro optical spectrum.
- Experience with systems engineering requirements management and analysis.
