About the position

The Activities Assistant at Life Care Center of Stoneham plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for patients by assisting the Director of Activities in planning, organizing, developing, and directing engaging activities. This position focuses on meeting the recreational, physical, intellectual, spiritual, and social needs of patients in accordance with applicable laws and Life Care standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating quality activity programs including entertainment, exercise, relaxation, and education.
  • Chart patient progress and behavior appropriately and descriptively.
  • Escort patients to and from activities.
  • Make regular in-room visits to patients who are uninterested or unable to participate in group activities.
  • Exhibit excellent customer service and maintain a positive attitude towards patients.
  • Assist in the evacuation of patients when necessary.
  • Demonstrate dependable and regular attendance.
  • Utilize reasoning skills and good judgment in various situations.
  • Communicate and function productively as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Prior experience with geriatrics preferred.
  • Valid driver's license in current State with satisfactory driving record per Life Care standards.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in arts/crafts/music is preferred.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Knowledge of practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing functions in the post-acute care facility.
  • Ability to implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the department.
  • Proficient in all competency areas including patient rights, safety, and sanitation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in customer service roles.
  • Knowledge of recreational therapy practices.
