About the position

Our Activities/Wellness Coordinator position is for our Independent living residents on campus. It is a great position for someone with a recreation therapy, wellness specialist who enjoys helping seniors maintain or build their strength through various wellness programs. Will be responsible for leading water aerobics (willing to send to training) as well as other classes of interest to residents. The ability to work with autonomy and initiative to seek out opportunities for residents to participate within the community as well as bringing in speakers and presenters for continued education opportunities for residents is important. Ability to drive 14 passenger bus for outings and trips for wellness and recreation is a must for this position as our residents love to get out and stay active in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and development of activity programming.
  • Ensure activities are led in a safe and effective manner by staff.
  • Act as a resource for employees, residents, and family with concerns around established activities.
  • Establish relationships with outside community partners.
  • Create and plan activities around established resident care plans.
  • Complete activity assessments and minimum data set (MDS) questions as needed.
  • Strive to improve the quality of life for the residents by providing appropriate, meaningful activities.
  • Administer the monthly activity calendar.
  • Regularly elicit residents' input into activity planning.
  • Oversee the effectiveness of programming being implemented.
  • Partake in activities such as fishing, nature walks, pet therapy, and music therapy.
  • Assist with simple nursing procedures and transporting residents.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Two years' experience in this field preferred.
  • Knowledge of working with a wide variety of resident demographics.
  • Experience in social services, creative activities, or long term care desired.
  • Eligibility for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional by a recognized accrediting body.
  • Successful completion of an accredited training program approved by state preferred.
  • Current Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification or currently enrolled as a student in a healthcare related program preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Valid driver's license and motor vehicle report required.
