About the position

The Activities Director at Hudson Springs Nursing & Rehab is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive program of activity therapy tailored to meet the diverse needs of residents. This role involves assessing residents' abilities and interests, creating individualized activity plans, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to enhance residents' quality of life through meaningful engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive assessments for each resident to determine their abilities and interests.
  • Develop individualized activity programs based on assessment findings.
  • Complete MDS and RAPS in a timely manner using observation and assessment tools.
  • Document resident responses to care plans and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Manage a budget for maintaining equipment and purchasing supplies for activities.
  • Utilize the biopsychosocial model to create meaningful activities.
  • Collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Team to implement therapeutic approaches such as music therapy and pet therapy.
  • Evaluate the efficacy of interventions for nursing and physician action.
  • Develop a variety of activity tracks to appeal to a diverse resident population.
  • Utilize the environment to provide comfort and stimulation to residents.
  • Arrange for speakers and presenters to interact with residents.
  • Support residents' needs through one-on-one and group activities.
  • Organize resident activities into clear formats for communication.
  • Coordinate off-site activity trips when appropriate.
  • Facilitate resident activism through the resident council process.
  • Take minutes at resident council meetings and maintain confidential files.
  • Develop and maintain community volunteer efforts.
  • Supervise Resident Activity Assistants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy or a related field preferred.
  • Certification as a Recreation Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant is preferred.
  • Two years of experience in social or recreational programming, with one year in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience in management or administrative duties is preferred.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to assess resident moods and adapt approaches accordingly.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with therapeutic approaches such as aroma-therapy and therapeutic touch.
  • Knowledge of dementia care and related activity strategies.
