About the position

The Activities Director plays a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in assisted living, nursing homes, and long-term care facilities. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing engaging activities tailored to the interests and needs of seniors, particularly those in memory care. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for caregiving and a strong understanding of the unique challenges faced by older adults.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive activities program that promotes physical, emotional, and social well-being for residents.
  • Plan and organize events that cater to various interests, ensuring inclusivity for all residents.
  • Manage schedules effectively to ensure a balanced variety of activities throughout the week.
  • Collaborate with caregiving staff to integrate activities into residents' daily routines, including assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
  • Evaluate resident participation and feedback to continually improve the activities program.
  • Facilitate memory care activities that stimulate cognitive function and enhance social interaction among residents.
  • Maintain records of resident participation in activities and report on outcomes as needed.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in senior care settings such as assisted living or nursing homes is preferred.
  • Strong event planning skills with an ability to create engaging programs tailored to diverse resident needs.
  • Knowledge of memory care principles and best practices in caregiving.
  • Excellent schedule management skills to balance multiple activities effectively.
  • Compassionate demeanor with a genuine interest in improving the lives of seniors.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, families, and external partners to enhance resident experiences.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage effectively with residents and their families.
