About the position

The Actuarial Analyst (Entry Level) position at USAA is designed for individuals who are beginning their careers in actuarial science. This role involves applying actuarial methodologies under direct supervision to support structured projects, contributing to the financial security of U.S. military members and their families. The position requires a basic understanding of actuarial concepts and the ability to manipulate large datasets to produce actionable insights. The work environment is flexible, requiring in-office presence four days a week across various locations.

Responsibilities

  • Apply actuarial methodologies under direct supervision on structured projects.
  • Use pre-defined metrics to test pricing assumptions and propose rate changes that improve rate adequacy and/or segmentation.
  • Manipulate large datasets to produce actionable insights.
  • Troubleshoot and identify solutions for routine technical issues.
  • Identify opportunities to apply new tools and improve processes.
  • Perform analyses and provide actionable insights that help solve business problems.
  • Effectively communicate insights and solutions to peers and immediate leaders.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of related Actuarial/business/analytical experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Up to 2 years of Actuarial or analytical business experience.
  • 1 Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) exam.
  • Familiarity with Excel and at least one programming language or modeling software package (Python, SQL, R, SAS, etc.).
  • Experience aggregating and analyzing data to solve problems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to effectively communicate insights and solutions to broad audiences including actuarial and non-actuarial stakeholders.
  • Personal and/or specialty lines pricing experience.
