About the position

The Actuarial Analyst (Entry Level) position at USAA involves applying actuarial methodologies under direct supervision to support structured projects. The role is focused on analyzing data, making informed assumptions, and providing actionable insights to improve business processes and decision-making. The position is based in various locations and requires in-office attendance four days a week, emphasizing a collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Apply basic understanding of actuarial concepts to make informed assumptions and apply methodologies on structured projects.
  • Use pre-defined metrics to test pricing assumptions and propose rate changes that improve rate adequacy and/or segmentation.
  • Manipulate large datasets to produce actionable insights.
  • Troubleshoot and identify solutions for routine technical issues.
  • Identify opportunities to apply new tools and improve processes.
  • Communicate insights and solutions effectively to peers and immediate leaders.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of related Actuarial/business/analytical experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Up to 2 years of Actuarial or analytical business experience.
  • 1 Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) exam completed.
  • Familiarity with Excel and at least one programming language or modeling software package (Python, SQL, R, SAS, etc.).
  • Experience aggregating and analyzing data to solve problems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to effectively communicate insights and solutions to broad audiences including actuarial and non-actuarial stakeholders.
  • Personal and/or specialty lines pricing experience.
