About the position

As a dedicated Actuarial Analyst I on the Property Pricing Modernization team at USAA, you will play a crucial role in facilitating the financial security of millions of U.S. military members and their families. This position involves coordinating, preparing, and performing actuarial analyses that are essential for developing new products, projecting future results, repricing existing products, and determining financial strength. You will be expected to perform moderately complex to complex work assignments and problem resolution under minimal supervision. The role allows for remote work within the continental U.S., with occasional business travel required. However, preference will be given to candidates residing within a 60-mile radius of specific USAA office locations, including San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, and Tampa, FL. Please note that relocation assistance is not available for this position. In this role, you will apply your proficient knowledge of the business, its products, and processes. You will utilize actuarial modeling software for pricing, valuation, and risk management. Your responsibilities will include entering data and tables, running models, and generating reports. You may also be tasked with making adjustments and improvements to models when appropriate. Maintaining proper price levels, price structures, data availability, and other requirements to achieve profitability and competitive goals will be a key focus. You will identify critical experience areas to monitor and suggest timely remedies to correct or prevent unfavorable trends, as well as identify sources of gain and loss by product and assumption. Testing pricing assumptions and the appropriate premiums, interest margins, reserves, and cash values for new products will also be part of your duties. Additionally, you will serve as a resource to less experienced team members on escalated issues of a routine nature and ensure that risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, prepare, and perform actuarial analyses for new product development and existing product repricing.
  • Utilize actuarial modeling software for pricing, valuation, and risk management.
  • Enter data and tables, run models, and generate reports.
  • Make adjustments and improvements to models as necessary.
  • Maintain proper price levels, price structures, and data availability to achieve profitability and competitive goals.
  • Identify critical experience areas to monitor and suggest remedies for unfavorable trends.
  • Identify sources of gain and loss by product and assumption.
  • Test pricing assumptions and appropriate premiums, interest margins, reserves, and cash values for new products.
  • Resolve issues and navigate obstacles to deliver work products.
  • Serve as a resource to less experienced team members on escalated issues.
  • Adhere to USAA Actuarial Program Guidelines and Actuarial Cross Train Program Guidelines.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree OR 4 additional years of Actuarial/business/analytical experience beyond the minimum required (for a total of 8 years) may be substituted in lieu of a Degree.
  • 4 years of Actuarial/business/analytical experience in addition to CAS (Casualty Actuarial Society) exams: 1, 2, 3F, MA S-I, and MA S-II + all VEEs completed.
