About the position

As an Actuarial Analyst II at USAA, you will be responsible for applying actuarial methodologies to complete structured projects and serve as a technical subject matter expert. This role involves analyzing data, improving existing processes, and providing actionable insights to support business decisions, all while working in a flexible environment that requires in-office presence four days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Independently apply actuarial methodologies to complete structured projects.
  • Build tools to test and implement new methodologies that improve accuracy of actuarial analysis.
  • Utilize model results to select new variables and refresh existing variables in a rating algorithm.
  • Analyze results from multiple methodologies to propose reserve selections and document rationale.
  • Identify and improve existing processes utilizing actuarial, mathematical, or statistical techniques.
  • Proactively resolve technical issues and identify appropriate issues for escalation.
  • Assist others with troubleshooting issues.
  • Create instructions and training materials for actuarial tools and processes.
  • Mentor new team members.
  • Apply business acumen to provide actionable insights that help solve business problems.
  • Effectively communicate insights and solutions to broad audiences including actuarial and non-actuarial stakeholders.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of related Actuarial/business/analytical experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 2 years of Actuarial or analytical business experience.
  • 3 Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) exams.
  • Experience with relevant actuarial, mathematical, and statistical techniques.
  • Intermediate knowledge of data analysis tools, data visualization, and developing analysis queries in Python, R, SQL, SAS, or BI tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to effectively communicate insights and solutions to broad audiences including actuarial and non-actuarial stakeholders.
  • Personal and/or specialty lines pricing experience.
  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner.
