About the position

The Actuarial Analyst III position at Health First is a full-time role based in Rockledge, Florida, where the incumbent will serve as a subject matter expert within the actuarial department. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to filings, product development, financial valuation and reporting, and population health management. The successful candidate will be tasked with developing financial models that monitor and project the current and future business landscape, ensuring that all models adhere to the appropriate actuarial standards of practice, laws, and regulations. In this role, the analyst will maintain rating models and database support programs that are crucial for the actuarial department's operations. They will also be responsible for updating these models to reflect changes in regulations and standards. A significant part of the job involves developing and maintaining models for calculating claims and other reserves, which are essential for the financial management of all products offered by the company. The analyst will also support the development of required state and federal premium rates and other filings, assisting in determining cash reserves, risk funding mechanisms, and budget projections. The Actuarial Analyst III will be recognized as a subject matter expert in at least one of the key disciplines mentioned above, contributing to the overall financial health and strategic direction of the organization. This position requires a strong analytical mindset, proficiency in various mathematical disciplines, and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments such as Underwriting, Risk Adjustment, Finance, and Senior Management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop financial models for monitoring and projecting current and future business.
  • Maintain rating models and database support programs used in the actuarial department.
  • Update models for appropriate actuarial standards of practice, laws, and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain models for the calculation of appropriate claims and other reserves.
  • Create management reports necessary for the financial management of all products.
  • Support the development of required state and federal premium rates and other filings.
  • Assist in determining cash reserves (IBNR), risk funding mechanisms, budget projections, and other financial modeling.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or related field from an accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 3.4.
  • Passed three actuarial exams.
  • 2 years of experience in at least one of the following: Filings, Product Development, Financial Valuation and Reporting, or Population Health Management.
  • Strong computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Excel and SQL or other programming languages.
  • Knowledge of laws, government regulations, and agency rules for managed care controls.
  • Strong background in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Knowledge of economics and accounting principles and practices.
