About the position

The Actuarial Analyst role at Guy Carpenter offers an excellent opportunity to engage closely with treaty reinsurance, collaborating with regional broking and analytics teams on key insurance and reinsurance accounts in the Latin American and Caribbean regions. This position emphasizes teamwork and effective communication of actuarial concepts to non-actuarial professionals, while also focusing on prospecting for new business, particularly in the Caribbean markets. The role involves providing actuarial support, analyzing data, and performing modeling to help design and place reinsurance structures across various classes of business.

Responsibilities

  • Data collection and manipulation in spreadsheets and other database applications.
  • Analysis of client data, creation of model assumptions, and financial analysis of the client's reinsurance structure using proprietary simulation software.
  • Preparation of client pitches, presentations, and participation in discussions with clients and reinsurers.
  • Communication and presentation of results and conclusions to brokers and clients in clear terms, tailored to the audience.
  • Support of the renewal process through reinsurance pricing analysis and support of the broking team in negotiations with reinsurers.
  • Deliver analysis according to internal analytical quality and compliance standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline such as Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields.
  • Sound oral and written communications skills in Spanish and English; Portuguese is a plus.
  • Completion of 1 - 2 Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) or Society of Actuaries (SOA) exams preferred.
  • Curious and proactive mindset with the ability to lead internal initiatives and research projects to completion.
  • Superior communication and presentation skills to translate complex technical analysis into easily understandable terms for brokers and clients.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with effective interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Desire and ability to grow beyond current capabilities.
  • Proficient in MS Excel and other MS Office products.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Legal work authorization to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with programming languages/visualization tools (i.e., R, Python, SQL, Alteryx, Power BI).
  • Experience in a technical related role at a reinsurance broker, market, or catastrophe model software vendor.
  • Prior experience in the relevant insurance/reinsurance field.
  • An understanding of the reinsurance industry and product lines.
