About the position

The Actuarial Analyst - Pricing role at Argo Group is essential for supporting the actuarial pricing strategy. This position involves collaborating with various business partners to optimize the insurance portfolio and requires continuous development of actuarial skills. The role emphasizes problem-solving, independent work, and the introduction of innovative ideas to improve team performance. The position operates in a hybrid work environment, requiring at least three days per week on-site in one of the company's offices located in San Antonio, TX, Chicago, IL, or New York City, NY.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a team environment with underwriting, claims, financial, IT, digital and marketing professionals.
  • Perform data work in R, Python, SQL, Excel, and PowerBI including data cleansing/manipulation, exploratory data analysis (EDA), and model building.
  • Support a full range of actuarial and financial analysis to quantify performance including predictive modeling.
  • Collaborate closely with business partners under the managing actuary's direction to improve portfolio performance.
  • Evaluate new business opportunities and/or programs and share recommendations with business partners.
  • Participate in loss ratio planning and reforecast processes on a quarterly basis, including rate change, loss trend, mix shift, and non-rate actions.
  • Explore and become proficient in new tools to drive efficiency and refine existing workflows.
  • Create and automate datasets and reports for actuarial analysis.
  • Complete rate filings, where applicable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or Finance related field.
  • 3+ exams in current pursuit of ACAS or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of actuarial experience, preferably with commercial lines.
  • Experience with at least one coding language (SQL, R, Python, SAS, VBA, etc.).
  • Broad overall knowledge of insurance.
  • Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts to management and other functional areas.
  • Ability to interact and work within a team environment and approach actuarial work collaboratively.
  • Ability to support concurrent projects.
  • Polished and professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to quickly evaluate the accuracy of information.
  • Proficient PC skills developed through extensive use of Windows and Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word).
  • Predictive modeling experience is a plus.
  • Rate filing experience is a plus.
  • Creative and flexible mentality.
