About the position

The Sr. Principal Actuarial Analyst for the Medi-Cal team is responsible for overseeing rate development and analysis, Medi-Cal program analysis, experience reporting, and strategy. This role involves direct management of an actuarial analyst and collaboration with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to drive successful strategy and analytics. The position emphasizes leadership development and continuous learning, aiming to optimize financial performance and strategic alignment within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee rate development and analysis for Medi-Cal programs.
  • Manage and evaluate all rate packages from DHCS, including development factors and actuarial assumptions.
  • Report financial opportunities and performance optimization areas to the CFO and senior executives.
  • Assist in rate negotiation and provide rate guidance.
  • Develop and manage advanced analytics projects, ensuring alignment with team and strategic goals.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop pricing trends based on population risk scores.
  • Act as the lead subject matter expert in claims, premiums, membership, and risk score assignment.
  • Partner with senior leadership to understand strategic direction and financial opportunities.
  • Support the CFO in the annual budget setting and ongoing forecasting processes.
  • Evaluate and explain monthly financial variances related to revenue and healthcare costs.

  • Proven experience in actuarial analysis and rate development.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Expertise in advanced analytics and financial forecasting.
  • Strong understanding of Medi-Cal programs and healthcare financial processes.
