About the position

The Actuarial Analyst position at Group 1001 involves assisting with the analysis of the in-force block of business and developing recommendations for assumption setting. This role is part of the Experience Analysis Team, focusing on automating and implementing key metrics related to mortality, persistency, and policy utilization for annuity and life business. The position emphasizes collaboration, communication, and the development of analytical skills in a supportive work environment that values diversity.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the completion of annual experience studies.
  • Develop automated repeatable transparent processes to streamline the experience analysis function.
  • Grow advanced skills in programming and data visualization tools.
  • Develop and implement enhancements to experience study data quality, model efficiency, and model effectiveness.
  • Maintain and develop monthly or quarterly reports to monitor company experience.
  • Ensure adequate governance and documentation of actuarial processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional individuals throughout the organization to optimize results.
  • Participate in special projects as needed.
  • Continue progress towards FSA designation offered by Society of Actuaries through company supported Actuarial Student Program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, finance, economics, math, statistics, physics, engineering, or related field.
  • At least one Society of Actuaries actuarial exam passed.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication (oral/written), time management, project management, and solution finding skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel (including VBA).
  • Proficiency in a statistical programming language such as SAS, Python or R is preferred.
  • Proficiency in database tools (Microsoft Access, SQL, etc.) is preferred.
  • Self-starter with the ability to balance multiple projects and priorities.
  • Willingness to work slices of unusual hours to expedite work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data visualization tools.
  • Familiarity with actuarial processes and methodologies.
