About the position

The Actuarial Analyst position at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina focuses on supporting core reserving processes, including estimating and explaining key liabilities and assets for the company. The role involves applying mathematical and statistical knowledge to assist in valuation and financial forecasting, working collaboratively with a team of actuaries to ensure a coordinated approach to health program components. The analyst will perform actuarial research, statistical analyses, and provide support to various departments while participating in the Actuarial Development Program.

Responsibilities

  • Support core reserving processes, including estimating and explaining key liabilities and assets.
  • Perform actuarial research, experience studies, and statistical analyses and calculations.
  • Calculate reserves for new and existing insurance plans.
  • Provide support to senior analysts or actuaries as required.
  • Retrieve and validate data for rate filings and actuarial models.
  • Build model enhancements and analyze impacts of changes to product lines and segments.
  • Communicate filing status to internal stakeholders and transmit rate filings to regulatory agencies.
  • Retrieve and validate data for monthly reports and for UCL and ALR calculation.
  • Support valuation by executing ALR model and verifying results.
  • Research to support ALR assumption studies and UCL estimates.
  • Distribute established reports and respond to inquiries regarding trends and anomalies.
  • Execute control activities to support Enterprise Risk Management.
  • Provide analytic support for corporate and departmental projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree (where required).
  • 2+ years of relevant actuarial experience.
  • Completion of at least 3 exams towards the eventual attainment of the ASA designation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Valuation and/or reserving.
  • Experience with Balanced Funding or level funded products.
