About the position

The Actuarial Director for Small Business Pricing at CNA Insurance is responsible for managing and implementing complex actuarial studies and pricing strategies within the Small Business area. This leadership role involves overseeing a team of actuaries, providing actuarial guidance to business partners, and collaborating with senior leadership to drive innovation and develop pricing strategies. The position requires a strong analytical mindset and the ability to influence and build relationships across various functions to ensure the successful implementation of business strategies.

Responsibilities

• Directs the work activities and manages the performance, coaching, and development of a team of actuaries.
• Provides actuarial guidance and business insights related to profitability to business partners and functional subject matter experts.
• Acts as account manager on key broker/client engagements, building strong relationships with stakeholders.
• Collaborates with senior leadership to develop and implement pricing strategies for Small Business.
• Drives innovation in products through thought leadership and regular evaluation of performance against goals.
• Oversees the production of technical actuarial analyses and reports for communication to analytical staff and senior management.
• Stays updated on actuarial expertise, regulations, and industry trends to lead decisions related to the line of business.
• Ensures clear documentation of methods is maintained by the team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent.
• Typically a minimum of ten years of related work experience.
• Typically has attained Fellowship accreditation (FCAS).
• Senior level knowledge of actuarial principles, practices, and procedures.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with small business pricing is preferred but not required.
• Ability to creatively manage through ambiguous and challenging problems.
