About the position

As an Actuary/Actuarial Analyst at Gallagher Benefit Services, you will be part of a dynamic and growing team within Gallagher's Specialty Actuarial Solutions. This practice focuses on providing consulting services related to Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB), including IBNR certifications, Medicare Part D studies, and health plan actuarial value testing. You will engage with a diverse range of public and private sector clients, helping them navigate the complexities of OPEB consulting. This role offers a unique opportunity to delve into actuarial analysis, work closely with clients, and develop your expertise in the field. In this position, you will be responsible for performing and explaining actuarial results to Senior Actuaries, ensuring that you can communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively. You will also be expected to research current actuarial topics and adhere to ASOP guidelines, demonstrating your commitment to professional standards. Your understanding of employer-sponsored compliance perspectives, particularly regarding GASB, ASC, and SOP accounting standards, will be crucial in delivering accurate and compliant actuarial services. The role requires you to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, emphasizing the importance of accuracy in your results. You will have the chance to grow into a lead consultant role, taking on more responsibilities as you develop your skills and knowledge in OPEB consulting. Responsibilities

  • Perform and explain actuarial results to Senior Actuaries.
  • Research current actuarial topics and ASOP guidelines.
  • Comprehend employer-sponsored compliance perspectives with respect to GASB, ASC, and SOP accounting standards.
  • Work on multiple projects and excel in a fast-paced environment while focusing on the accuracy of results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university.
  • 2 - 7 years of actuarial experience; OPEB experience preferred.
  • Pursuing the Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation or is already an ASA, Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or Enrolled Actuary (EA) designation is a plus, but not required for this level.
  • Experience with retiree medical plan actuarial valuations (e.g., required accounting reports, liability determination, funding analysis, etc.).
  • Experience producing health care actuarial results and enjoy being involved at various levels of the employer-sponsored health care consulting work.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. ProVal proficiency preferred.
  • Claims processing experience and understanding of Per Capita Claims Cost projections, and long-term actuarial assumptions.
  • Grasp of accounting standards under, but not limited to, GASB 74/75 and ASC 715.
  • Retiree medical plan design consulting experience.
