About the position

The Acute Care Assistant at Bronson Battle Creek is responsible for performing a variety of clerical and basic patient care duties under the supervision of nursing staff. This part-time position on the third shift involves assisting with patient hygiene, taking vital signs, maintaining a clean environment, and supporting nursing operations to ensure efficient patient care. The role requires proficiency in medical software and a commitment to providing high-quality service to patients and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with personal hygiene for patients, including bathing and toileting.
  • Takes and records vital signs and reports any abnormalities to nursing staff.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Answers call lights and prioritizes patient requests.
  • Assists patients with meals and documents their intake.
  • Performs simple treatments as directed by registered nurses.
  • Helps patients with movement and ambulation, documenting appropriately.
  • Provides comfort to patients and their families, ensuring privacy and addressing fears.
  • Collects and delivers specimens and supplies as needed.
  • Assists with patient admissions and discharges, including post-mortem care.
  • Enters computer orders as assigned by the Charge Nurse.
  • Cleans and cares for equipment in patient care areas.
  • Orients new employees to the role of acute care assistant.
  • Reconciles daily charges and monitors for variances.
  • Processes and maintains electronic medical records and patient charts.
  • Communicates with physicians and other departments to obtain necessary information and services.
  • Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience and CNA license preferred.
  • Must obtain BLS Certification by the end of the orientation period.
  • Basic medical terminology knowledge preferred.
  • Skill in oral and written communication and basic mathematics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Cerner and other medical software
