About the position

The Patient Access Representative serves as the first point of contact for patients at healthcare facilities, assisting them with the administrative aspects of gaining access to medical treatment. This role is crucial in ensuring a positive patient experience through effective communication and customer service, while also managing patient intake, registration, and financial counseling in a hospital-based setting.

Responsibilities

  • Verify patient's demographics and accurately input this information into the EHR.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with multiple services including inpatient, observation, emergency, obstetrics, surgery, and imaging.
  • Understand and verify insurance guidelines for all services, ensuring accurate benefit verification.
  • Create a positive first impression for patients through effective communication and customer service.
  • Submit timely notifications for payer authorizations according to insurance guidelines to reduce denials.
  • Obtain necessary federal/state compliance information and documentation required by insurance plans.
  • Discuss financial liability with patients and assist them in applying for financial assistance or setting up payment plans.
  • Provide various patient and financial services tasks, including transporting patients and training new hires.
  • Work independently in a high-volume, fast-paced clinical environment, prioritizing tasks effectively.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Customer service skills or knowledge of patient financial services, typically acquired through one or more years of work experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in common office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree in Business Management is preferred.
  • CHAA certification is preferred.
  • Previous patient access and/or cash collections experience is preferred.
  • Work experience with the company's systems and processes is preferred.

Benefits

  • Paid training for 7 weeks, Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm.
  • Flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential.
  • 18% night shift differential when applicable.
