About the position

The ADA Compliance Officer at the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is responsible for leading the institution's efforts to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and related accessibility regulations. This role involves developing and implementing policies and procedures to support individuals with disabilities, overseeing compliance activities, and providing education and outreach to staff, faculty, and students. The officer will work closely with the Director of Accessibility Services and stay updated on relevant laws and trends to maintain a comprehensive accessibility compliance program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate policies, procedures, and standards for accessibility compliance.
  • Coordinate and monitor compliance activities and trainings related to ADA and accessibility.
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for adherence to ADA and related policies.
  • Oversee the development of programs, services, and education for students, staff, and faculty regarding accessibility.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Accessibility Services to ensure compliance with federal guidelines and ADA requirements.
  • Stay informed about current state and federal laws, regulations, and trends related to ADA and WCAG.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a related field, particularly in higher education.
  • Deep knowledge of equity and inclusion theory and practice as it applies to higher education.
  • Experience with federal, state, and local laws related to accessibility.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations diplomatically.
  • Demonstrated skill in exercising professional judgment and discretion in sensitive matters.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to multitask and adjust to changing priorities, with strong collaboration skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, proactive, resourceful, and efficient.
