The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Adaptive Sports Specialist is responsible for developing and executing both single-day events and multiweek programs aimed at educating, coaching, connecting, and empowering wounded service members in their pursuit of adaptive sports goals. This role is crucial in fostering a supportive environment where veterans can engage in adaptive sports, enhancing their physical health and overall well-being. The Adaptive Sports Specialist will work closely with the Physical Health and Wellness (PH&W) team to provide comprehensive support, including fitness coaching, nutrition guidance, and health education tailored to the unique needs of each warrior. In this position, the Adaptive Sports Specialist will identify, screen, and recruit warriors for participation in various adaptive sports events, both virtual and in-person. They will plan, execute, and facilitate these events, ensuring that participants have access to the necessary resources and support. The role requires a high level of independence, as the Specialist will often operate with limited supervision, demonstrating strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. The Adaptive Sports Specialist will also be responsible for developing and facilitating virtual programming content, utilizing platforms such as Zoom and Facebook Live to reach a broader audience. They will serve as a liaison within the adaptive sports community, building relationships and establishing partnerships that enhance the resources available to warriors. Public speaking and community engagement are key components of this role, as the Specialist will raise awareness of WWP's adaptive sports programming and its impact on the lives of veterans.
