About the position

The Addiction Counselor provides essential support to individuals struggling with substance use and mental health issues through one-on-one consultations, individual and group therapy, and crisis intervention. This role is crucial in both inpatient and outpatient settings, focusing on the assessment, treatment planning, and ongoing support of clients to facilitate their recovery process.

Responsibilities

  • Provides addiction-related health and psychosocial assessments.
  • Assists with analyzing patient/client health needs and establishes applicable treatment programs.
  • Provides individual and group treatment/therapy.
  • Consults with unit staff regarding diagnosis and treatment planning when appropriate.
  • Provides crisis intervention to align with clinical standards and programming.
  • Assigns patients/clients to special programs or placements to meet health needs and/or legal requirements.
  • Provides proper clinical documentation per facility policy.
  • Communicates with clinical staff on treatment planning and patient/client goals.
  • Helps family members understand their role in the recovery process and assists with coping and family-related issues.
  • Modifies treatment programs as necessary based on observations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary.

Requirements

  • Maryland Certification: ADT, CSC-AD, or CAC-AD; or Maryland License LGADC, LCADC.
  • Experience in behavioral health guidelines, including behavioral health assessments, individual and group therapy, and clinical management of patients with mental illness and/or substance abuse issues preferred.
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR certification if applicable.
  • TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
